Focusing: In this meditation technique, you have to focus your mind on any one object. It could be anything- a candle, an image of Buddha, a picture of Christ, a flower, your breath or your heartbeat.  The purpose of this mediation technique is to calm your mind and to free it from its constant thinking and attain a state of peace. Focusing on an object helps you calm and centre yourself, and stabilize your mind.
Visualizing: A variant of the above technique, it is a more powerful tool in the meditator’s tool kit. Here, you have to visualize or imagine something in your mind and focus on it. Unlike the focusing technique, this requires your mind to create the image that you want to focus upon.
