What are gall stones?
- Gall stones are lumps of solid matter that are formed in the gall bladder (the sac like structure, situated under the liver, where bile is stored and concentrated). They arise when there is an imbalance in the components of the bile.
What causes gall stones?
- The major cause is a diet that is greatly lacking in fiber. A low fiber diet leads to a reduction in the synthesis of bile acids by the liver, which in turn reduces the solubility of bile.
- Another risk factor is the high consumption of refined carbohydrates (white sugar, refined flour, and processed foods).
- Obesity is associated with formation of gall stones
Clinical Manifestations:
- Some gall stones are asymptomatic, i.e. they do not produce any clinical features or symptoms. They are accidentally found.
- Others, demonstrate intense pain in the right side of the abdomen.
- Sometimes, the pain radiates to the back.
Diet Tips to Treat Gall Stones:
- Achieving an ideal body weight is crucial for the management and the prevention of gall stones.Obesity results in an increased synthesis of cholesterol in the body. This increased cholesterol, in turn amplifies the secretion of cholesterol in the bile, which is a potent risk factor for stone formation.
- Consumption of 8 to 10 glasses of fluids daily is essential to maintain the optimum water content of bile.
- Reduce the consumption of refined carbohydrates, sugar, saturated fats, fried foods, and animal proteins.
- Stay away from coffee when you have gall stones.
- A vegetarian diet protects against gall stone formation and also helps treat it successfully.
Food prescriptions:
- Radishes and radish greens are the best foods that help fight gall stones. They increase the flow of bile and help maintain a healthy gall bladder. (But, consume the food in moderation.)
- Step up the intake of oat bran.
Homoeopathy for Gall Stones:
Chelidonium majus:
- Chelidonium is a prominent liver and gall bladder remedy, and a brilliant homoeopathic medicine for the management of gall stones.
- Crampy and constructive pains (gall colic) are felt in the abdomen. The pain radiates up to the right shoulder. Eating food, temporarily relieves the pain and cramps. The pains occur when the stone gets lodged or stuck in the bile duct.
- Gall bladder obstruction leads to symptoms of jaundice.
- There is nausea and vomiting.
- Bowel movements are sluggish

Gallstones are small, round or oval calculi found in the gall bladder. They occur when there is an imbalance in the bile components (bile salts, bilirubin, cholesterol, phospholipids, and fatty acids).
Causes leading up to gall stones
• A low fiber diet is the chief factor.
• Diet which comprises of refined carbohydrates (white flour, white sugar) and fats.
• Obesity is an associated factor.
• So is chronic constipation
• Women are more predisposed to gall stones than men.
Dietary management
• Step up your intake of dietary fiber. It will help prevent an aggravation of the complaint. Consume linseeds and oat bran in higher quantities. They are excellent sources of fiber. Also, let fresh fruits and vegetables be the mainstay of the diet.
• Cut down drastically on fats, and greasy foods, and refined carbohydrates.
• Augment your intake of water to about 4 liters per day.
• Homoeopathy prescriptions show quick results (I would require a few questions answered before prescribing).
• In extreme cases surgical intervention becomes necessary. Thus, ensure that your diet is corrected immediately.

My gallbladder was diagnosed as sluggish (ejection rate of 9, normal is 35 and above) and they found several gallstones. I suffered awful stabbing pains in the right side of my upper abdomen, nausea, and vomiting. This apple cider remedy took away the pain. In two days I was feeling great without symptoms:
2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar in 8 oz of water 3x a day. Add honey to taste.
