Jam and Jelly for Cancer:

British researchers at IFR (Institute of Food Research) have discovered that an ingredient in jams and jellies can help check the spread of cancer. They have found that pectin, a natural fiber that is present in fruits and vegetables, and used extensively in food processing, plays a significant role in halting the spread of cancers.

Laboratory tests have revealed that pectin binds to, and inhibits galectin 3, a protein which is responsible for the spread of cancers in all the stages. Previous studies have also demonstrated that eating a diet that is rich in fiber prevents the occurrence and progression of cancers of the gastrointestinal tract.
Morris, who conducted the research, said that it is advisable to eat a range of fruits and vegetables, and fiber-rich foods consistently.
