Moon Phases and Epilepsy | Diet, Causes, Treatments for Epilepsy

Epilepsy and Moon Phases:

Scientists at the University College, London, have studied a number of patients suffering from epilepsy, and the clinical trials have revealed that the epileptic seizures reduced when the moon was at its brightest.
For the research, the experts examined the record of seizures in an epilepsy unit, where, every seizure in a 24 hour period is recorded for the patients.
They compared the timing of the seizures with the moon’s brightness.

The upshot was, that during the waxing periods of the moon (during the brighter phases of the moon’s cycle), there were lesser number of epileptic seizures, as compared to the waning periods.
Lead researcher, Sallie Baxendale of University London College, stated that the trials have clearly demonstrated that there occured fewer epileptic attacks when the moon was fuller.
The scientists say, that the effect of the melatonin hormone, which is secreted only at night and in the dark, may be implicated in the epileptic attacks.
