The correct technique of breathing is very vital to good health. The ideal way of breathing can reverse the processes of ageing and halt the onslaught of premature old age.
The following 3 forms of pranayama (control of the prana or the vital force), should be practiced daily, as many times as possible. Pranayama makes all the cells in the body work in unison and restores harmony and health.
Yoga for Healthy Life:
- This method of breathing is divided into 3 stages.
- Start with abdominal breathing, then followed by thoracic breathing, and then finally clavicular breathing.

Nadi shodhana (alternate nostril breathing, purification of the nadis or the channels of energy):
Inhale through the left nostril, keeping the right nostril shut, then exhale through the right, closing the left. Now inhale through the right and exhale through the left. This is 1 round.

- Strengthens the nervous system
- Relieves anxiety, depression, and hypertension.

Bhramari (humming bee):
- Place the thumbs on the ears. Close your eyes. Inhale. Then exhale making the sound of a humming bee.

Tips to Handle Stress:
- Learn to recognize and handle stress. Identify the offending factor and tackle it using any technique that works therapeutically for you, it could be a mundane chore (washing vessels, sweeping, cleaning,), or an activity or hobby, or a sport.
- Daily, spend some time in silence.
- Take frequent breaks and holidays. Holidays promote rejuvenation. They help us break free from the mad rush of the urban life, and reconnect with ourselves and nature. Vacations reduce burnouts and increase productivity.
- Self appreciation is crucial to boost your mental and emotional health. Reward your achievements and never keep impossible dead lines.
- Regular exercise is important. Exercise releases endorphins or feel-good hormones. These relieve stress and improve the overall well being.
