Low Carbohydrates Diabetes:
US researchers say that a low carbohydrate diet helps in the management of diabetes mellitus type 2, and can even do away with medications. Westman, says that when carbohydrates in the diet are eliminated, blood sugar level drops, and weight loss occurs, which in turn, further decreases blood sugar level.
2 diets were used in the study, a low carbohydrate diet, which had less than 20 grams carbohydrates per day and a low glycemic diet, which had 500 calories per day. These diets were randomly allocated to subjects who were obese and had type 2 diabetes mellitus. After 24 weeks, the subjects who were on to a low carbohydrate diet had a better blood sugar control than those who were on to low glycemic diet.
Westman has warned that this diet is a therapeutic diet for the sick and is not recommended to the general public.
