Bigger, not better!:
Here’s why our waist lines are expanding rapidly:
- Sedentary Lifestyles: Machines have made our lives so much easier. We don’t need to exert ourselves in the least bit. TVs, laptops, desk jobs, cars, and a whole lot of machines at home, have made us very inactive, and we spend long periods of time sitting down.
- Hidden Calories: Processed foods, refined foods, and ready-to-eat meals are packed with unwanted calories.
- Also, fast foods like burgers, sandwiches, and French fries, spell doom.
- Large Portions: Our meal sizes are too large.
- Alcohol: Alcohol is loaded with calories, and it is extremely addictive.
- No time to shop well in advance: We never plan our meals before hand, and we never shop keeping in mind all the ingredients. And when we realize we haven’t got 1 particular ingredient, we make do with another, possibly, an unhealthy option.
Solutions:
- Listen to your body: Never overeat. Stop eating when you feel satisfied, not full. Leave the table, when there still is a little bit more place for food in the stomach.
- Check food labels: Always check the labels for sugar, carbohydrates, salt, fat, and trans-fats.
- Smart snacking: When you feel hungry keep yourself well armed with a low calorie snack, or else you’ll reach for something fatty and unhealthy.
- Break up your meals: Consume 5-6 small sized meals everyday. Not 2 large ones.
- Get moving: You ought to fit in some form of exercise in to your schedule. A walk, or a swim, or a dance, anything that makes you active.
