Arachnoid Brain Cyst Removal | Treatment and Symptoms of Brain Cysts

Arachnoid is a rare condition in the brain, but it can also affect anyone. The condition can be congenital or may have developed during fetal development or can be obtained thru head injuries and brain diseases such as tumor and meningitis or may also be the result of complicated brain surgery. There are ways to manage arachnoid cyst but it has to under the strict supervision of a professional medical practitioner.

What Are the Symptoms of Arachnoid Brain Cyst

A person with arachnoid cyst may manifest varied signs and symptoms. Some of these symptoms can be mistaken for other illness that is why it is very important for a person to be subjected to proper medical checkup once the following symptoms occur:

  • Obvious physical head enlargement
  • Deformation of the cranium
  • Vertigo
  • Sudden and painful seizures that ends abruptly
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Dizziness due to the loss of natural equilibrium or imbalance of the body
  • Elevating back and leg pain
  • Numbness or tingling sensation in the arms and legs
  • Intense headaches
  • Falling down or tripping for no apparent reason
  • Hearing buzzing sound

Brain Cyst Removal and Management

If you are feeling the signs and symptoms of a person having arachnoid cyst, it is important that you subject yourself to a medical checkup.

If possible, seek for second medical opinion. Consider at least two medical opinions or the advice of brain surgeons and other brain specialists for confirmation and for you to be given other options when it comes to treatment to your head condition.

A person who is suspected to have arachnoid cyst would be subjected to necessary laboratory tests such as brain scan using MRI or magnetic resonance imaging to identify fluid filled arachnoid cysts from other kinds of cysts. After determining the size and location of the cyst, the neurosurgeon will determine the kind of treatment approach applicable for the patient.

If the brain surgeon sees that there is no need for arachnoid cyst removal involving surgical procedure, then the cyst will be left alone especially if it does not cause any symptom or discomfort. Leaving the cyst alone is safer than touching it with medical procedure that might worsen the condition. However, if surgical procedure is needed, the neurosurgeon will conduct microneurosurgical procedure to remove the membranes of the cyst or cut the cyst to allow the fluid to drain out.

    Where are the Neurosurgeons located? Are surgeons in the state of Washington that preform the drain of an Arachnoid Cyst. Could you recommend a surgeon that could perform the removal of Arachnoid Cyst.

    The condition of arachnoid cyst in the brain is a rare entity. There is no permanent cure that medical science can give to this disease.
    The treatment available is more focused to the symptoms rather than the problem.
    An arachnoid cyst is filled with cerebrospinal fluid, arachnoid tissue, and collagen.
    The symptoms are: Headache, Neurological disturbance. It is due to the pressure on the brain because of the constantly expanding cyst.
    The prime thing to do is to reduce the intracranial pressure, by the way of putting shunt, aspiration, or excision. Surgery is the only alternative; the procedure is simple, except if the cyst is in the spinal chord. The overall prognosis after the surgery is good, and a person can lead a complete normal life.
