Protease Deficiency: Symptoms And Treatment For Low Protease Enzyme

Protease Enzyme Deficiency

Among the three important nutrition needed by your body, protein ranks first in its importance, the other two being carbohydrates and fats. No doubt it deserves its name protein, which in Greek means of “first importance”.

Protein is needed for the growth and maintenance of the body tissue.  It is a building block.

For the protein to get digested in the gastrointestinal tract, you need an enzyme protease. Deficiency of protease enzyme will result in protein deficiency symptoms. This will depend on the amount of deficiency of protease.

Protease Deficiency Symptoms

Deficiency of protease can cause several symptoms:

  • The alkalinity of the blood increases when there is protease deficiency.
Digestion of proteins makes the blood acidic, but due to lack of protease, protein is not digested and blood becomes more alkaline. This causes insomnia and anxiety.
  • Osteoporosis and arthritis can result due to protease deficiency.
  • Mood swings, irritability and general mood change occurs. This occurs due to hypoglycemia caused due to protease deficiency.
  • Recurrent abscess and slow healing of various bacterial and viral infections is caused due to protease deficiency.
This is because protease digests impurities ad unwanted debris in the blood.
  • Edema is another problem faced when there is protein deficiency resulting from lack of protease enzyme.
  • Chronic ear infection and water in ear results from low protease.
  • Women are predisposed to PMS, if there is  deficiency of protease.

Low Protease Treatment

Deficiency of protease treatment involves taking protease enzyme supplements from outside. It will allow easy digestion of proteins.
