  • Drink ginger tea right after eating to promote good digestion

  • To get rid of the symptoms, mix equal amount of honey and lemon juice then drink it
  • To treat acid indigestion, you can also mix cider vinegar or some lemon juice to a glass of water, drink it before taking a meal.
  • Another effective remedy of acid ingestion is the use of mint essence. Drop 2 to 3 mint essence to a glass of water and drink it every 3 to 4 hours
  • Herbal teas such as raspberry, mint, chamomile, and blackberry are also proven effective in treating acid indigestion.
  • To prevent acid indigestion, avoid alcoholic drinks and smoking. You should also have a healthy lifestyle such as having regular exercise, eating healthy food and getting adequate sleep or the recommended 8 hours of sleep
  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day or even more.

When a person eats something and the stomach is not able to tolerate nor digest it, this results to indigestion. The stomach contents will tend not to be broken down but instead remains stagnant in the stomach causing gastric upset.

Causes of Indigestion

As stomach contents remain undigested, the stomach continuously produces hydrochloric acid that helps facilitates the breakdown of the food. However, if these food and water content still remains undigested, indigestion occurs and upset stomach is what you get.

  • Eating foods that have too much oil and fats.
  • Eating soiled food.
  • Ingesting food that you are not used to eating like if you are a vegetarian and you accidentally ate food that you thought was vegetable meat but turns out was pork meat, your body would react to this.
  • Eating too much. This usually can be explained if you consume so many food that you tend to feel bloated.
  • Drinking too much water after eating.

Treatments for Indigestion

There’s no treatment to such condition; however, there are remedies you can do to alleviate the discomfort you would be experiencing once you have an indigestion

  • Avoid eating oily and fatty foods. Eat something bland. Dry crackers would be ideal.
  • If you feel nauseated and feel like you’re about to vomit, then try to drink or take in some hot liquids. Tea would be great. Avoid coffee because it would usually have an acidic effect to your stomach making your condition worse than usual.
  • To some, they usually find drinking a can of soft drinks or any acidic drink helpful because they say it helps in the breakdown of the stomach contents.
  • Drinking a decoction made out of an infusion of guava leaves or avocado leaves would also help to treat indigestion
  • You may also try massage for digestion

Indigestion is something you might not be able to treat single-handedly but you can be able to prevent these from happening to you. There are certain conditions and factors that might make you prone to experiencing these; hence, if such still persists, then seek for medical help for it might be due to some underlying condition you might be having.

How to Avoid Indigestion?

  • Avoid eating fatty and oily food.
  • Avoid drinking coffee with an empty stomach. Take it with a toast of bread.
  • Avoid stress; it usually triggers indigestion also.
  • Eat healthy and nutritious food instead.
