Question: My doctor has given Zifi 200 tablets when I went to him with high fever for the symptoms matching to typhoid. So is this medicine correct?

  • Zifi 200 is a brand name for third generation cephalosporin with the generic name ‘Cefixime’. It is commonly used to treat typhoid fever, tonsillitis, pharyngitis and gonorrhea.
  • Cefixime is commonly used for treatment of typhoid considering the high prevelence of multi-drug resistant Salmonella typhi strains.
  • Cefixime is generally well-tolerated and his mild side effects which include abdominal pain with loss motions, nausea and vomiting. These symptoms may very well be those of secondary typhoid fever.
  • Cefixime is given for 8 days and is safe and efficient in treatment of typhoid. Always eat the tablet after meals to avoid acidity.
