Causes of Swelling of Cheeks
Every now and then, you may experience the painful swelling of cheeks that may signify that there is something wrong within your mouth or along your jaw. Some of the cheek swelling causes you will find include dental problems like an abscess, the growth of wisdom teeth, and allergic reactions to food you ate. This condition may also be due to exposure to certain allergens, melanoma, the ailment called mumps and lymphadenitis, or the swelling of lymph nodes in the cheeks or the jaw area. Other people may also suffer from swelling inside the cheek due to serious ailments like kidney failure, heart failure, and the eating disorder called bulimia nervosa.
Remedies to Reduce Swollen Cheeks
Depending of course on the cause of the swelling of cheeks, a person may find different solutions to either get the swelling to go down or to remedy the pain that sometimes comes with this problem. For example, if with your cheek swelling wisdom teeth are involved, you might want to take anti-inflammatory medication to reduce cheek swelling or you can simply take pain relievers and wait for the teeth to fully emerge from your gums. Here are some other remedies you can try:
- For swelling of cheeks due to allergies, you may want to take antihistamines to help bring the swelling down.
- For dental abscesses, you might need to go see your dentist and he will advise you on the steps you need to take to get rid of this problem. This may include pain relievers, anti-inflammatory medications. And when the swelling is gone, the removal of the tooth or a root canal will be advised.
- For other ailments like melanoma, lymphadenitis, and mumps in adults, you may need to see your doctor for the proper medications needed for these ailments. You will find that some of these ailments are more serious than others and may require more intensive care for the swelling to go down.
