Headaches can occur due to a host of reasons:

• The commonest cause for headaches is prolonged stress / emotional strain. These headaches are often called tension headaches. Nearly every individual suffers from a tension headache, at some time. Emotional factors like – as anger, worry, fear, excessive concentration, stress, and, physical factors like – neck strain, due to working on the computer for prolonged periods, often result in headaches.
• Migraine headaches are severe and debilitating. What actually causes migraine is not known, but many initiating factors have been recognized. They are – hormonal changes, stress, specific foods (like – cheese / chocolate / coffee / red wine, strong odors, and a lack of rest and sleep.
• Sinus related headaches are another cause. They occur in association with an episode of cold / cough / stuffy nose. An inflammation of the para nasal sinuses results in a headache.
• Cluster headache is an uncommon type of headache. It tends to occur in clusters, over, days, or weeks, or months with periods when there are no headaches at all. They are invariably set off by alcohol.
• Anemia also cases headaches, along with other associated symptoms – dizziness, weakness and breathlessness. A drop in the hemoglobin, reduces oxygenation, leading to headaches.

To manage headaches, you need to first ascertain the cause , and then, accordingly treat it.
