Memory Loss Treatment | Prevent Memory Loss | Loss of Memory Treatment
- A new research suggests that vitamin B 12 (found in meat, fish, and milk) can avert memory loss, occurring, especially in old age.
- Older people who have lower levels of vitamin B12 were more than 6 times susceptible to the development of forgetfulness and a poor memory. They were more liable to experience brain shrinkage, the experts stated.
- The University of Oxford tested 107 healthy subjects over a time period of 5 years.
- The study demonstrated that 2 out of 5 people are deficient in the vitamin.
- The researchers studied a group of people aged between 61 to 87 years. The volunteers who had low levels of the vitamin stood a greater chance, and were more likely to show signs of brain shrinkage over a 5 year period.
- David Smith, a professor at Oxford, is directing the clinical trial to investigate Memory and Aging.
- He said that the study is aimed at understanding the contribution of the vitamin B in the process of aging and memory loss.He also stated that the food that we eat partly influences the brain shrinkage.
- Furthermore, brain shrinkage has been linked to the development of dementia.
Effects of Walnuts on Brain
- The walnut resembles the brain. It has a left and a right hemisphere, just like the brain. Even the in-foldings and the wrinkles look immensely like the cortex of the brain.
- The nut is chockfull of omega 3 fatty acids. More over they are full of anti-oxidants called polyphenols.Polyphenols contain tannic acid, chlorogenic acid, serulic acid, ellagic acid, caffic acid. These have the potential to regulate blood circulation and the conduction of nerve impulses to the brain. They greatly augment memory power and our recall capacity.
- Walnuts combine well with other nuts like hazelnuts, and almonds, and also with dry fruits like raisins.
Tips to boost memory and keep the brain alert and agile
- Be single-minded (avoid multi-tasking)
- The more things that you do at one time, the less likely are you to remember them. What’s more the brain gets fagged out. Multi-tasking makes the memory slip. Avoid doing an important task while talking over the phone, and listening to music at the same time. It will not help you any. Be focused, concentrate on the task at hand and be single-minded.
- Make it easy for the brain to absorb information (avoid diversions)
- Limit distractions. That’s the key to keep the mind at peace, when doing a task. If other thoughts pop up, make sure you write them down and revert to each, one by one.
- Calm your mind (avoid agitation)
- Meditation is your answer. True meditation means the correction of thoughts.
To experience the benefits of spirituality, set aside half an hour every day, either early in the morning on waking, or late in the evening after work. Meditation helps us block out the external chaos and disarray. It soothes an agitated and troubled mind, calming it and strengthening it to cope with the stress. It cultivates spirituality in our life.

I need help to deal with someone who cannot retain her memory and keeps asking the same questions repeatedly. Will a calendar and a wipe board to write reminders, be helpful to the person? My Dad seems to get tired of answering for her all the time. Can someone give any suggestions?

Memory loss or forgetfulness is very common in geriatric age group, forgetfulness can be serious problem, and early detection is the key to the treatment.
Memory loss can be normal or due to some serious problem, like Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. If detected in early stage, memory loss can be slowed down in these patients with medications.
Normal memory loss is like forgetting people’s name, taking longer time to learn, not able to find right word, or things once placed.
More serious memory loss is to ask repeated questions, getting lost in familiar places, not bathing, forgetting to eat, confusion of time and place. They are present in Alzheimer’s disease.
The other cause is vitamin B12 deficiency, hypothyroidism, depression, anxiety, and grief. If these causes are corrected, memory loss is reversible in such cases.
Caring a person having a memory loss is the most difficult task for the relatives, they have to get used to it, especially people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
For this type of person a neurophysician’s advice is necessary so that proper medications given to them can slow down the process.
Walnuts, and almonds are beneficial in some cases as they contain Anti- oxidants, and omega 3 fatty acids, they have properties to regulate blood circulation, and nerve conduction impulses to the brain.
