Cystitis Causes, Treatments

Cystitis is an infection of the bladder caused by bacterial inflammation of the urethra. It often affects the bladder and kidneys. Poor hygiene, pregnancy and becoming chilled are factors that can cause cystitis. Irritation of the urethra in the absence of bacteria, like wearing tight clothing, involving in intense or unfamiliar sexual intercourse or passing kidney sediment can cause irritation as well.

To prevent cystitis wear comfortable cottony underwear, avoid pads with plastic covering and drink plenty of fluids.

Important: See your physician immediately if there is blood or pus while passing urine, in case of high fever or if there is a constant problem.

Symptoms, Remedies for Cystitis

  • Sudden onset; constant urge to urinate accompanied by unbearable pain; urine is hot and sometimes has a reddish tinge; yearns to drink cold water; person has shivers; is afraid of death; very restless, particularly while urinating, often due to dry wind, cold or breeze while driving.

Worse – Warm room, warmth in any form, and at night
Remedy – Aconitum 30*/** (* every half an hour till improvement is observed, but not more than five doses. ** If experienced one or three doses of Potency 200)

  • Burning, piercing pain while passing urine; particularly at the very end; constant feeling of pressure with urge to urinate; produces little urine of dark color; not very thirsty; cannot tolerate tight clothing and warmth all of a sudden.

Worse – Pressure, warmth in any form
Better – Fresh air
Remedy – Apis mellifica

  • Sudden onset; the whole body feels hot and feverish; but feet are cold; head feels hot and pupils are dilated; burning pain in the bladder; urge to urinate without producing urine, usually after getting chilled.

Worse – Vibration, motion, cold
Better – Quiet, rest, warmth
Remedy – Belladonna 30 or 200

  • Constant urge to urinate with unbearable and piercing pain; pain in the bladder; urine is produced in little drops only; urine is very hot and cloudy; severe thirst but dislikes drinking or has unsatisfying thirst.

Worse – Coffee, cold water
Remedy – Cantharis

  • Painful urge to urinate, particularly when cold; burning pain at the opening of the urethra while urinating; urine is slimy and cloudy; usually after getting chilled or wet in summer or late autumn.

Better – Warmth in any form
Remedy – Dulcamara

  • Extreme urge to urinate; burning, piercing pain when urinating, particularly at the opening and around urethra; pain is present for a long time; sweating at night with foul smell.

Worse – Change in temperature, nights
Remedy – Mercurius solubilis 200 (One dose every half an hour until improvement is seen, but not more than five doses)

  • Bladder has developed irritation after drinking too much of fruit juice or beer or after becoming cold; frequent, painful urge to urinate, but little urine is produced; sensitive to cold; very irritated and nervous.

Worse – Mental stress, coffee, draft, cold
Better – Quiet, rest, warmth in any form
Remedy – Nux vomica

  • Painful bladder irritation, sometimes there is a cramp-like feeling just before urination that disperses into the thighs; urge to urinate after having urinated; not very thirsty; often caused by the feet becoming wet and chilled. Especially for people who are moody and tend to brood.

Better – Receiving sympathy, fresh air
Remedy – Pulsatilla 200

  • Frequent urge to urinate, with severe burning sensation or totally pain-free; plenty of light colored urine; passing urine becomes easy while standing.

Remedy – Sarsaparilla

  • Frequent urge to urinate, but urine cannot pass immediately and is foul-smelling.

Worse – Cold, after intercourse
Better – Warmth
Remedy – Sepia
