Colds Treatments, Causes:

Cold is usually caused by a virus and is characterized by inflammation in the inside of the nose and sinuses. When the immune system is generally weak we get cold. The symptoms of simple cold could also be the early signs of a viral infection. Cold due to bacterial infection can also lead to complication like Earaches and Sinus infections.

Attention: Scarlet fever and measles are childhood diseases that often start out with an acute cold.

Symptoms, Remedies for Colds:

• Painful, runny (free flowing) cold; foul smelling mucus; severe sneezing initially; nose and upper lip are often sore; can’t lie still; very anxious and restless.

Worse – Cold, fresh air
Better – Warmth
Remedy – Arsenicum album 30

• Painful, runny cold; breathes through mouth; nose is red and painful; rubs nose till it bleeds; runny nose but still stuffed with mucus.

Worse – Lying down, warmth, in the morning
Remedy – Arum triphyllum

• Painful, runny cold; severe sneezing; nose is painful and reddened; eyes and sinuses are affected; mild pain; symptoms occur after getting wet or chilled.

Worse – Cold, wetness
Better – When head is wrapped up warmly, fresh air
Remedy – Cepa

• Mild, watery cold; affects the eyes, sharp and burning pain; the edge of the eyelid becomes red; after that, thick and sticky mucus gums up the eye.

Worse – light
Better – warmth, darkness
Remedy – Euphrasia

• Yellow or yellowish green, thick, stringy nasal discharge; thick drops of mucus develop into crusts; pressure at the base of the nose, spreads to the sinuses.

Worse – Cold, early morning from three o’clock onwards
Better – Fresh air, warm weather, warm steam
Remedy – Kali bichromicum 30

• Runny nose, but hardly any sneezing; headaches; tired and exhausted

Better – Fresh air
Remedy – Luffa operaculata 30
Note – Particularly effective for a non-specific beginning of a cold

• Mild, watery cold mucus, particularly during the day; nose is blocked and dry in the evening and during the night; extreme sneezing when exposed to cold air; nose itches if it is often exposed to draft; nosebleed.

Worse – Warm rooms, in the evening
Better – Mild, fresh air
Remedy – Nux vomica 200

• Thick, yellow or yellow greenish thick liquidly mucus, mild; usually starts on the right side; frequent changes between runny and stuffy nose; restless; complains constantly; speaks in crying voice; bad mood.

Better – Fresh air, receiving sympathy
Remedy – Pulsatilla 200

• Watery, heavy cold; later thickens; severe sneezing; alternating stuffed nose on right and left side; pressure at the base of the nose; forehead aches; nose and eyes burn.

Worse – Fragrance from flowers, cold air, outside
Better – Warm drinks, warm air
Remedy – Sabadilla

• Dry cold that develops slowly with constant itching; inside the nose hard crusts are formed and when they are removed it bleeds; loss of sense of smell; cold spreads easily to the sinuses; severe headaches; then thick slimy mucus.

Worse – Lying down, cold
Better – Moving outside in fresh air, warmth (when particularly applied around the head)
