Conjunctivitis and Eyelid Inflammation Causes, Remedies:
An infection of the conjunctiva and the eyelids often follows a cold or a viral infection. See your physician if no improvement is observed after two to three days from the onset. And see your physician immediately in case of high fever.
The following remedies are to be taken orally only. Do not use tinctures or undiluted drops directly into the eye, it can cause burning. Strictly use only those eye drops prescribed by your physician.
Symptoms, Treatments of Conjunctivitis and Eyelid Inflammation:
- Eyes are inflamed, dry and hot; severe and burning pain comes with a greater degree than expected; eyelids are swollen; feels as if sand has entered the eyes; these are the characteristic symptoms of initial stage, it is caused by cold/dry wind (east wind) or a draft while driving a car.
Worse – Motion, touch
Better – Rest, quiet
Remedy – Aconitum 30*/** (One dose every half an hour, but for no more than two hours. If experienced use one to two at potency of 200)
- Conjunctiva is bright red; stabbing pain as if the eyes are full of sand; eyelids are swollen and glassy; tears are hot.
Worse – Warmth, warm compresses
Better – Cold, cold compresses
Remedy – Apis mellifica
- Sudden onset; stabbing or burning pain; conjunctiva glassy, red, dry; highly sensitive to light; pounding or pulsating headaches; reason: because of working under strong, glaring light, also can be caused by virus infection and snow blindness; highly numb or over stimulated; very restless; these symptoms are typical during the initial stages.
Worse – Motion, light
Better – Rest, quiet, darkness
Remedy – Belladonna 200
- Eyelids and conjunctiva are watery, inflamed or red; burning pain, but tears are mild; severe tearing; has headaches in warm rooms; often combined with a severe cold.
Worse – Warmth, warm compresses
Better – Outdoors, fresh air, coolness
Remedy – Cepa
- Eyelids and conjunctiva are red with burning pain; eyelids are swollen, sore and gummed up; burning and hot eyes; severe tearing; has dull headaches; has to blink constantly.
Worse – In the evening, light, winds, warmth
Better – Sleep, darkness
Remedy – Euphrasia
- Itching; burning pain; lots of thick, slimy, mild, yellow discharge; tendency for developing a sty; person is moody; speaks in a crying tone; caused by usually a cold and/or exposure to a draft.
Worse – Warmth
Better – Attention, sympathy, fresh air
Remedy – Pulsatilla 200 (One dose every half an hour, but never exceed two hours)
