Bacterial Conjunctivitis:
Bacterial conjunctivitis is just one among other forms of eye infection. Pink eye or Madras eye are other names for conjunctivitis which is an inflammation of the inner covering of the eyelids and outmost layer of the eye or what is called, the conjunctiva. Conjunctivitis can be classified according to the cause of the inflamed area which includes:
- Allergic conjunctivitis resulting from an allergic reaction
- Chemical conjunctivitis
- Neonatal conjunctivitis
- Infection which can either be conjunctivitis viral bacterial
Bacterial Conjunctivitis Symptoms:
Irritation, redness, and watering of the eyes are the usual signs and symptoms that are commonly observed on all types of conjunctivitis.
Diagnosis of Bacterial Conjunctivitis:
Some people believe that the discharge coming from an infected eye is the basis for the diagnosis of bacterial conjunctivitis but this is not actually true.
Acute bacterial conjunctivitis or pyogenic infections can be painful usually affecting one eye first and spreads fast to the other. It remains dormant in one eye for the first three days before any signs of symptoms are observed. The eye is very red with a thick purulent discharge.
Bacterial Conjunctivitis Treatment and Prevention:
Bacterial conjunctivitis can be usually resolved without any treatment at all but there are bacterial conjunctivitis eye drops that will help if the condition worsens after three days. There has been no noted serious effect that has been observed on patients with or without treatment. Conjunctivitis may be prevented or shortened with just a simple observation of proper hygiene. Washing the hands frequently with an antiseptic soap and using clean and dry towels can help prevent the spread of the infection or the chances of getting one.
