Essential Oils For Labor: Aromatherapy For Labor Induction

During labor and delivery, aroma oils can be decidedly beneficial. Essential oils are ideal to help relieve some of the problems that occur during labor. Used judiciously, aromatherapy can provide you with a sense of relaxation and comfort.

Aromatherapy is of immense value, as it soothes and calms the nerves. It consists of essential oils derived from plants, leaves and fruits. These oils can be massaged on the skin, inhaled or put into the bath. With body massage or with inhalation of essential oils our brain gets stimulated.  The fragrances of oils create positive atmosphere and agitation with uneasiness is cooled off.

Essential Oils For Labor And Delivery

The following essential oils will be of immense value:

  • For a long and tiring labor, peppermint essential oil works wonders. It is an uplifting and energizing stimulant.
  • To release emotional trauma and anxiety associated with labor, you could try lavender essential oil, ylang-ylang essential oil and geranium essential oil. These oils exert a powerfully comforting and soothing effect. They dispel all negative emotions and rejuvenate the mind and body.
  • To improve the efficiency of the uterine contractions, towards the end of a long labor, the direct inhalation of Clary sage essential oil is helpful.

Aromatherapy For Labor Induction

The following aroma oil blend will help get you ready for delivery. Apply it on the perineum 1 week prior to the delivery:

  • Geranium oil 8 drops.
  • Lavender oil 5 drops.
  • Fennel oil 5 drops.
  • Almond oil 1 ounce.

You can even use essential oils in the bath, to calm frayed nerves. About 3 drops of lavender or geranium or ylang-ylang essential oil in the bath would be ideal.

Another effective way is vaporizing the oils in an aroma oil burner.

Aromatherapy has the potential to instill peace and calmness and drive away fear, worry and anxiety. It also eases pain and discomfort successfully.
