I am having ear block in my right ear. The doctor advised me ear drop. I used it for two days there is no relief. I met an ENT doctor and he gave me the prescription for sinus. I had sinus ten years back and took some medicine and I was better with that. Even after taking the medicines I am not getting any relief this time.
An exercise to relieve the block by closing the nose and try to leave the air through ears and suddenly leaving the nose. None of the above gave any relief.
The doctor says to scan the ear and if any swelling found in between throat and ear, it should be operated.

Some times the ear is blocked due to impacted ear wax. Get it cleaned by your doctor.
There are several causes for blocked ear.
      – Impacted ear wax.
      – Sinusitis.
      – Ruptured or perforated ear drum.
      – Cold and cough, and other respiratory tract infections.
      – Bacterial infection causing otitis media.
      – Air pressure changes.
Try to soften the wax if present, by putting ear drops for few more days.
Do you have pain in your ear?
CT scan will help to diagnose lot of other conditions of ear and throat if present.

I slipped out of one of my skis and face planted into the water, recently when I was water skiing and my ear has been in pain ever since. No blood or pus has drained out and I don’t think my ear drum is busted. Please suggest some good remedy for water clogged ear.

Equal part rubbing alcohol to white vinegar. Lay on your side and pour it in your ear. Wait a few minutes and then empty it. I used to have swimmers ear constantly and my doctor told me that has the same effect as the ear drops they prescribe it will dry your ear out!

My daughter’s left ear has been clogged probably due to her sinus problems and blowing her nose too hard and too much. She tried several methods like yawning, chewing gum, moist heating, exhaling through ears but that did not help. She visited GP and had her ear washed with warm water and that gave a slight relief. She also used nasal spray and Zyrtec. However, she still feels the blockage though there is no pain or irritation. When she tries to exhale with her ears while holding her nose n mouth shut, she feels a slight release of air but it still remains clogged. Blockage makes her feel like she’s submerged under water. It has been a week and we wonder if there is anything else we can do before consulting an ENT doctor.

I have had a clogged ear for several weeks. How can I get relief because my ENT told me never to put any drops of oil in my ears due to a perforated ear drum.

Johanna, try holding your nose and blowing/pushing as hard as you can. This will for sure take the air out of your ears and if that does not work try chewing gum and taking hot showers.
