Intestinal Infection Diarrhea | Home Remedies for Intestinal Virus Diarrhea

Question: One month back I had a severe attack of diarrhea. It was better after taking medicine. But after every meal I felt the need to pass stools. My current condition is that I pass loose stools. After passing the stools I feel exhaustion and fever like condition. There is also rectal itching and distension of abdomen. Right now the doctor has prescribed some medicine. Besides I am also taking Sorbiline syrup. Tell me what medicines should I take and what food to consume? The Liver Function Test is normal.

Diarrhea is frequent passage of unformed or loose stools. Diarrhea can be acute or chronic.

It can be due to bacteria, viruses, protozoa, amoebic colitis, and inflammatory bowel disease. Drugs like sorbitol, laxatives can also cause diarrhea.

  • Since you are passing loose stools since many days, there are chances of electrolyte imbalance, oral rehydration therapy is useful.
  • Gooseberry and lime juice with sugar are beneficial.
  • Mixture of banana and curd is soothing to the abdomen.
  • Honey and water mixed together are helpful in cases of diarrhea.
  • Indian gooseberry and chebulic myrobalan powder is also useful to take care of diarrhea.
  • Starch contents which are present in rice gruel, arrowroot gruel help in diarrhea cases, especially in chronic diarrhea.
  • Buttermilk is also one of the important remedies for diarrhea. Buttermilk is residual milk left after the fat has been removed from the curd by churning.

To treat the itching in anal region, clean your anal region with warm water, after every bowel movement. Toilet paper, wash clothes, soaps should be avoided. Seitz bath for 5 to 10 minutes relieves perianal discomfort. Stop sorbiline for some time.

Investigation advised is routine stool examination.

    I have had an intestinal infection for over two weeks now. I hope the doctor can find out why it won’t go away. I have had the runs and incontinence, which are very uncomfortable. Please suggest me some remedy.
