I am 34 years old, have recently done sugar scan from Thyrocare and found to be prediabetic having HIaBIc 6.17. Overall cholesterol level is 1.70 and urine-Micro albumin is 41 mcg/dl and urine-creatinine is 151 mg/dl. Whether I need any treatment. I have good control over eating and do regular exercises. Will it work for me to keep me healthy?

Diabetes normally develops after the age of forty years. However, in the recent times stress and faulty dietary habits have contributed to an early development of diabetes. It is important that you ensure that your diet is healthy, along with the regular exercise regimen.
How To Prevent Diabetes And Control Cholesterol?
- Ensure that your diet is rich in fresh fruits, vegetables, oat, cereals and pulses. Avoid refined grains, instead use whole grains. Whole grains are rich in fiber content which in turn aids in reducing cholesterol levels, whilst improving gastrointestinal health.
- Avoid oily, spicy and fatty food. Don’t eat junk food. Avoid aerated drinks, alcohol and stop smoking.
- Certain fruits need to be avoided. These include water melon, mangoes, banana, etc. You could increase the intake of apple, pears, grapes, etc. Dry fruits like cashew nuts, resins, etc also are highly saturated with carbohydrates and should be avoided completely.
- Green tea will be helpful in management of your condition. Don’t added refined sugar to it. Ensure that you use jaggery instead of sugar, in nominal quantities.
It is apparent that you will develop diabetes over a period of time. However you can delay its onset by ensuring a healthy and nutritious diet and regular exercise. Diabetes is a silent disease and hence regular annual evaluation is mandatory.

- Certain vegetables like carrots, potatoes, beet, parsnips, beans and peas contain carbohydrates and starch, which should be completely avoided
- Avoid highly sugary fruits like banana, mangoes, chikoos, grapes, strawberry, sugarcane, jack fruit and watermelon.
- Avoid saturated fats, cheese, butter, etc.
Food Items To Eat
- Increase the intake of fruits like lime, peaches, grapes and apples. Spread the intake of fruits throughout the day, so that they aid in the regulation of the blood sugar levels and prevent hypoglycemic attacks and spiking.
- Fibrous diet like cereals, nuts, pulses, vegetables and seeds should form an integral part of your diet, as it aids in lowering blood cholesterol levels, commonly associated with diabetes.
- Whole grains should be preferred over processed and refined cereals.
- Onion and garlic have a beneficial effect on the blood sugar level and should be consumed regularly.
- Use unsaturated oils instead of saturated and refined oils in your diet.
