The Glycemic Index rates foods based on the affect that they have on the increase in blood sugar level.
The digestion of food and how quickly it is converted into blood sugar is the main criteria of the Glycemic Index.
The Glycemic Index diet is also known as the GI diet, is a ranking system for foods.
Earlier it used to be a simple ranking system to give better information on what we are eating. It has now grown into a diet plan that is very popular and offered as a diet at many of the world’s largest weight loss organizations.
Most often the Glycemic Index Diet is taken as a low GI diet, which means that the diet consists of foods ranked low by the Glycemic Index.
Foods that are ranked low on the Glycemic Index promote rises in blood sugar and insulin as they are digested.
When this happens the appetite is reduced and the body is encouraged to dissolve the body’s fat.
There are also many other benefits to the Glycemic Index diet.

High GI foods wreak havoc upon the body and encourage hunger and the conversion of calories into body fat. The ability to burn fat is greatly reduced by foods high in the Glycemic Index.
Nutrisystem is a popular diet system that revolves around this premise. The diet is of course a low Glycemic Index diet.
Low Glycemic Index diet foods are good to moderate carbs and are typically higher in protein. A low GI food is one that scores 55 or less on the chart while medium GI foods score 56 to 69.
Cereal is a good low Glycemic Index diet food and this includes Kellogg’s All Bran and Special K as well as Oatmeal. Fruits and vegetables including Apples, Cherries, Grapes, Oranges, green beans, Broccoli, Tomatoes, Lettuce, and raw Carrots are also foods that are low according to the Glycemic Index diet.
Pastas and breads can be low Glycemic Index diet foods. These include but are not limited to ravioli, fettuccine from egg, whole wheat pasta or break, pumpernickel, and barley.
Drinks such as Apple and grapefruit juice, and skim milk are also low Glycemic Index diet foods. List of low Glycemic index diet foods include snack foods like peanuts, walnuts, and cashews.
Foods ranked high by the Glycemic index diet should be avoided. They are very bad. These foods rank 70 or higher on the Glycemic Index diet chart. Fruits and vegetables to avoid are watermelon, dates, mashed potatoes, pumpkin, and parsnips.
White breads, bagels, and French baguettes should also be avoided as well as pastas and rice such as instant white and short grain white. High Glycemic Index diet foods also consist of cereals like Coco Pops, Cheerios, Rice Krispies, and Cornflakes.

Anyone believe that the GL (glyco load) goes hand in hand with the glycemic index?
