Many patients exhibit no particular symptoms at all, other than a feeling of being unwell. Only routine blood or urine test, which is common in a simple diabetes test, helps determine the presence of diabetes. Most diabetic patients however feel the need to urinate frequently accompanied by excessive thirst.
Frequent Urination
A diabetic patient passes a lot of urine several times a day. Night times there is frequent urge to empty the bladder. Glucose accumulates in the blood when it is unable to enter the body cells and appears in the urine.
Increased Thirst
Excess urination leads to water loss from the body and creates excess thirst. To meet the water requirement a diabetic patient drinks large quantities of water at shorter intervals.
Extreme Hunger
Diabetics tend to feel hungry most of the time. They often end up eating large meals. But despite that their hunger pangs never seem to be satisfied.
Loss of Weight
Despite the intake of large meals at frequent intervals, there is continual loss of weight.
Weakness and Fatigue
Diabetics feel fatigued and out of breathe very quickly. The sugar in the blood is unable to get into the cells where it is converted into energy. This lowers stamina and resistance. As a result the patient feels tired and fatigued continuously. The patient may have a pale appearance due to anemia.
Body Pain
Diabetic patients frequently complain of headaches and pain all over the body especially hands, arms, legs and feet. Elevated sugar levels in the blood damage the nerves and are responsible for these aches and pains.
Itching
People suffering from diabetes are under constant urge to scratch the skin, especially on or around the genital organs.
Depression
Diabetics patient are not very active. They often feel tired and avoid doing work. Their mental state also exhibits a lot of depression. To gain control over Nervous System and overcome feeling of depression, they should meditate, relax and rest well.
Frequent Infection and Slow healing of Wounds and Sores
This is one of the most common symptoms of diabetes. Vaginal and bladder infections are common among women. Patients of diabetes fail to control infection because they develop low reactive powers. So the wounds and injuries take long to heal. The feet should be specially protected from injuries and burns as they are most vulnerable. Bleeding should be stopped promptly.
Oral Disorders
Burning sensation and dryness in the mouth or tongue are common in diabetes. Recurrent bacterial or fungal infections, reduced salivation, gum diseases that loosen teeth are other oral disorders. Proper dental care and regular dental check-ups are therefore essential. Chew, hard and fibrous food to exercise the gums and teeth. Wheat is especially valuable in preventing diseases of the gums.
Blurred Vision
Fluid from the lenses of the eyes is pulled out by excessive sugar in the blood. As a result the lenses become thin and lose their ability to focus. High blood sugar can cause the tiny blood vessels in the eyes to bleed. This can cause dark spots, flashing lights, rings around the eyes and sometimes blindness. So diabetes patients should consult an eye specialist regularly.

I am 23 years old, I don’t know if I have diabetes but I have to dash to the loo frequently and I can’t go anywhere because of this. My bladder constantly feels full, even if I have just gone to loo. I have been drinking only water, tea or diluted sugar free juice. I also have regular headaches, sometimes painkillers don’t relieve them. I am very active and cycle about 5 times a week, but now I go out only once because I feel tired and have to take midday naps. I don’t have a strenuous job either. I don’t know if I have lost weight. Are these the symptoms of diabetes and frequent urination is also because of this?
Recently I had my blood sugar tested, and after fasting the glucose level came up with 5.2, and cholesterol level HDL and LDL, was very low at 0.9, and according to the doctor my sugar level is normal.

I also feel some tiny threads flowing in my eye lens. Running for some distance, causes pain in my legs. Do you think that these are the symptoms of type 2 diabetes.
