DRY FRICTION
• Dry friction baths forcibly open pores of the skin and stimulate the cells lying at or near the surface of the body.
• Waste products and morbid matter from the body are thrown out from the pores in the form of perspiration.
• Dry friction baths on a regular basis ensure good health that is essential for prevention and treatment of diabetes.
Procedure
• In dry friction method the body is brushed with a soft bristle brush or with a rough dry towel.
• To begin with - face, neck and chest are brushed gently followed by brushing of the arms, beginning at the wrist and moving towards the shoulder.
• Then start with the toe, moving to the ankle and then up the leg.
• Repeat the same with the other leg, followed by hips and central portion of the body.
• Brush quickly to and fro till the skin attains pink color.
SPONGE BATH
• Sponge bath is generally given to patients suffering from chronic diseases.
• Sponge bath is given with a Turkish towel in a basin.
• The patient is covered with a bed sheet.
• The legs are rubbed briskly with a Turkish towel dipped frequently in water and dried immediately.
• The body parts are sponged one at a time beginning with arms, chest, abdomen, legs, feet and back.
• A towel is spread under the entire length of the limb when the arms and legs are sponged.
• To stimulate circulation the skin is rubbed briefly and each part is dried to avoid chill.
• However warm water can be used for weak patients.
NEUTRAL IMMERSION BATH
• In neutral immersion bath, the bathtub is filled with both hot and cold-water connections.
• The water temperature should measure between 26 - 28 degree centigrade
• The bath may take between 15 minutes to 1 hour.
• It improves functioning of kidneys, skin and is beneficial in treatment of disorders relating to these organs.
• It is also beneficial in treatment of chronic, inflammatory conditions of brain and spinal cord.
MASSAGE
• It is a passive exercise; produces excellent results. In Greek language it means “to knead”.
• In this process the soft tissues of the body are scientifically manipulated.
• It can be highly stimulating and rejuvenating if it is correctly done on the bare body.
General massage of the body provides multiple benefits.
It improves respiration, tones the nervous system, improves circulation and metabolic processes and speeds up elimination of waste material and poisons through various eliminative organs such as lungs, skin, kidneys and bowels. It is highly beneficial in treatment of diabetes.
