Diagnosis of Diabetes and conditions causing Diabetes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Diabetes is a condition in which besides the pancreas, adrenal, liver, pituitary and thyroid are also involved. It is a constitutional disease and a systemic derangement where the whole body is involved. If the disease prevails for a long time the patient becomes weak and dies of malnutrition because of the body’s inability to break down food and use it.
Screening tests that help determine fasting and post-prandial (two hours after intake of food) blood glucose levels helps us to know if the patient is diabetic.
- Normal Levels – Readings below 100 milligram per 100 milliliters of blood during fasting. And around 120 milligram per 100 milliliters of blood, two hours after meals.
- Borderline Levels – Readings may vary from 110-120 milligram during fasting and 130-179 milligram two hours after meals.
- High Levels – Above 120 milligram in fasting and above 180 milligram two hours after meals in extreme cases.
