Generally, the symptoms of swine flu in children do not have any significant difference with the common flu. However, the warning signs and symptoms may vary.  As a parent, the one important thing is for you to be able to detect swine flu from a regular flu.  Your child’s health would benefit if you could detect the signs as early as possible and be able to treat them accordingly.

Of the swine flu incidence all over the world, the elderly and children are amongst who are greatly infected by the virus especially the infants.  In any diseases, prevention is always the better than cure so basic hygiene such as regular washing of hands with anti-bacterial components is a must.  Like a regular flu, the most susceptible to infection are the ones with weak immune systems.

Children become susceptible because their bodies have less developed immune system. For infants, it is best for mothers to breastfeed their young ones since breast milk is a good source of immunity and antibodies. But for mothers who are infected with swine flu, it is strongly advised that she immediately stop from breastfeeding her infant.

Symptoms and Complications of Swine Flu

The symptoms for swine flu are generally the same regardless of age.

But what makes it difficult for children is because they cannot air out what and how they are feeling especially for children below 2 years old so a parent must be vigilant in taking warning signs and flu-like symptoms among their children.  It is of utmost importance for a parent or a guardian to seek medical help if the child is having the following symptoms:

• Fever with a body temperature of forty degrees Celsius
• Chills and muscle aches
• Headaches with sore throat as well as dry cough
• Vomiting  and diarrhea may also be experienced

Prevention of Swine Flu in Children

To prevent your children from getting infected with swine flu, a parent or caregiver should take the necessary prevention tips.

Some of the following might be of great help:

• Vaccines are generally the best solution to protect your children and babies against seasonal influenza and swine flu.
• Remember to keep your children home if you suspect anyone in your household having symptoms for flu.
• Most importantly, give your children their daily dose of vitamins and other food supplement for their immune system to strengthen.
