Swine Flu Alert Level | Swine Flu Epidemic and Pandemic Preparedness

Whenever there is a disease outbreak, the first thing that many would like to know is the infestation or the alert level of the outbreak. This is important because it helps them in monitoring the impact that the disease has on population and so that efforts aimed at controlling the outbreak will be properly directed.

In the case of the swine flu outbreak early this year, the swine flu alert level reached certain heights that many could not imagine what they will do in order to save themselves from the virus. Nonetheless, knowledge of the correct swine flu alert level was helpful in many ways because it helped people and authorities alike to understand the swine flu threat level looming on specific areas.

Swine Flu Alert Level

Based on its reports the WHO swine flu alert level in most countries affected by the virus reached the community outbreak level. This means that in most nations, areas or localities that has even just a single case of swine flu is at risk from a community outbreak that will not spare anyone. What this brought was a higher swine flu danger level that left authorities and the public in general to find the best means of countering the virus. When a community outbreak happens, this means that there is now a real high swine flu alert level that needs the cooperation of everyone to eliminate the disease.

Endemic and Pandemic Preparedness

When the swine flu alert level reached the community outbreak stage, most people wondered: Is a pandemic next? While it is debatable what exactly constitutes a pandemic, it is undeniable that countries and health authorities are helpless in trying to confine the virus to one border. Hesitantly and with great remorse, health authorities declared that the virus has now reached the pandemic level. When this was declared, efforts were no longer geared toward treating individual cases but the focus has now shifted towards preventing the virus from spreading by restricting movement of people, thus radically reducing the amount of contact between individuals. This also meant that healthy authorities stopped issuing bulletins to inform people of the latest tally of those affected or of the casualties.

Although the declaration of pandemic as the swine flu alert level was raised was first met with some hesitation, it bonded people together to a common cause so their lives will be safe. In the end, what it proved is that when there is unity, concerted efforts are always bound to succeed.
