Incubation period of streptococcus sore throat is about 2 to 4 days. The disease is contagious, and is transmitted by airborne infection like sneezing, mucus from throat, coughing and eating food preparations contaminated with streptococcus bacteria such as eating ice-cream, using common utensils and deep kissing.
Strep Throat Contagious Period
If a person is suffering from strep throat he will remain contagious for 24 to 48 hours after starting antibiotics.
A person can remain infective without treatment for 3 weeks, even if he does not manifest any symptoms of sore throat.
Complications Of Strep Throat
Complications of strep throat are less common as a result of mild form of disease and the introduction of effective chemotherapy. But when present they are
- Rheumatic fever (a rare sequel but a serious one).
- Acute kidney inflammation (nephritis).
- Ear infection.
- Sinusitis.
Therefore it is very important to treat strep throat and avoid its complications.
