Current Swine Flu | Latest Swine Flu and H1N1 News and Updates
On June 11, 2009 the World Health Organization in its update to current swine flu news had raised the pandemic flu alert level from Phase 5 to Phase 6. It was reported that nearly 70 countries all over the world are infected by the flu.
In its latest swine flu updates, the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention said that United States has the highest number of confirmed cases.
The WHO confirmed to have more or less 414,000 confirmed cases of swine flu.
The pandemic swine flu attacks happened in Mongolia, Rwanda and Sao Tome, and Principe. Just this week, several first fatal cases were also reported to happen in Iceland, Sudan, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Canada has also reported various Influenza-Like Illnesses (ILI) for the whole month. However, British Columbia, Canada has been monitored to have the highest level of possible swine flu cases.
The WHO had tallied the following swine flu updates by region:
- African Region with 14,109 confirmed swine flu cases and 76 deaths
- American Region tallied a total of 174,565 swine flu cases, and 4,175 deaths
- Eastern Mediterranean Region. About 17,150 laboratory swine flu cases were confirmed and 111 deaths due to the said pandemic flu
- European Region. Last swine flu news had climbed its number of H1N1 infected to 63,000 cases and 261 deaths
- South East Asia Region. This WHO Region had totaled to 41,513 swine flu cases and 573 deaths
- Western Pacific Region reported a total of 122,267 confirmed cases and 455 deaths
It has been observed that influenza activities are much lower in the European region. However countries such as Belgium, Israel, Netherlands, Norway, and partly some part of the UK have reported to have above baseline level of flu activity. Some parts of the Eastern Europe and Northern Asia had shown rapid increase of influenza activity. However, it is much low from what is expected to happen in a season of flu. Generally, swine flu updates had reported a decreasing activity worldwide as of this time.
