In some children the condition can surface with the symptoms of anxiety. It can present in the form of panic attacks, palpitation, giddiness, isolation, fluctuation of temperature or loss of control. A depressed child is sad, pessimistic, and the activities that once he used to enjoy does not give him the same pleasure.
There is feeling of hopelessness and guilt. The child feels fatigued without any physical exercise. Some children may present with exaggerated mood swing. Sudden change in mood from extreme high to low usually occurs when the child is suffering from bipolar disorder. The child may talk nonstop, does not sleep, and has poor judgment.
A child having chemical imbalance also has attention deficit and very impulsive. He gets easily distracted. In many cases of chemical imbalance the child may become violent and abusive. He starts to bite and scratch others or his fellow companion after getting irritated on petty things. The child may throw things when angry on trivial matter.
Treatment For Chemical Imbalance In Children
There is no sure shot blood test that may help to detect chemical imbalance in a child’s brain. Once you take your child to your doctor for consultation after he shows symptoms of chemical imbalance, the pediatrician will evaluate the child if there is any underlying pathological condition.
If he does not find any pathology, he may recommend PET scan which helps to evaluate and analyze imbalance in neurotransmitters. When irregularities are found, the child is prescribed medications to prevent fluctuations in the brain chemicals. The basic goal of treatment is to make the child’s life more productive.
