Measles Information:

The diagnosis of measles should be made by a Physician. Measles is also caused by a virus. Infection occurs through the transfer of small drops of moisture. Incubation varies from nine to fifteen days.

In the first stage the symptoms are all similar to those of flu, and severe eye complaints are an important sign. In the initial stages small, white spots appear inside the cheeks in the mouth. A high fever sets in that lasts for three to five days.

In the second stage light red spots spread quickly, starting at the ears and spreading down over the whole body. The spots then merge together and develop into a brownish red rash. At this stage the fever is mild to high. This stage lasts for four to six days. For recovery staying indoors is very essential.

    • Measles is a highly communicable and contagious disease.

    • It is caused through droplet infection, i.e., through sneezing, coughing, or using infected articles.

    • Spread of the Rubeola virus (the causative organism) occurs 4 days before and 2 days after the onset of the rash.

    Management of measles

    • The treatment for measles is supportive and symptomatic.
    • The rash takes about 1 week to fade away. It may leave behind a brownish discoloration.
    • You can manage the other symptoms such as fever, and coryza (runny nose), and cough effectively and speedily through homoeopathy. Allium Cepa, given repeatedly, several times a day, will treat measles speedily.
    • It is important to boost immune mechanisms. Hence, give the patient loads of lime juice, orange juice, and fresh fruits.

    Prevention of measles

    • A spread to the other members of the family becomes necessary.
    • Those individuals who have had a previous attack of measles are protected naturally.
    • Ask the patient to sneeze, cough, and blow his nose, in to a handkerchief.
    • Wash his clothes, fomites, handkerchiefs, and towels, separately in hot boiling water.
    • Do not use his articles.
    • After, attending to him, wash yourself thoroughly.
