Causes of Impetigo in Children and Babies

Impetigo in children is a skin infection caused by a bacterium called Staphylococcus aureus, and they generally develop around the mouth and nose. The germicidal infection usually has the following symptoms:

  • Rashes on the surface of the skin
  • Skin lesions
  • Stinging of the skin
  • Pain in the arms and limbs
  • Crusts on the lesions
  • Itching
  • Swelling of the lymph nodes
  • Bumps on the skin

The causes of impetigo in infants are the following:

  • Exposure to individuals infected with impetigo
  • Close and physical contact with an infected person particularly with his lesions and rashes
  • Sharing personal things such as towels and clothing with a child infected with impetigo in children

Home Remedies for Impetigo in Babies and Children

  • Soak a piece of cloth on a basin of diluted tea tree oil and wrap it around the infected area.
    After an hour, remove the cloth to expose and air the lesions. Repeat the process every day until the lesions and other symptoms disappear.
  • Get a bowl of boiled water then add 5 drops of tea tree oil. Wash the lesions thoroughly with clean cotton.
  • Apply cornstarch on the affected area.
  • Apply calendula cream to the lesions after bathing and before retiring to bed.
  • Impetigo in children is highly contagious. To prevent transmitting the infection to other kids and even to adults, constantly change your child’s linens. If possible change the linens, bed sheets and towels every day until the infection disappears.
  • Soak your baby’s clothing and other garments in hot water to destroy the germs.
  • Avoid taking your child outdoors until the lesions and other symptoms has abated.
  • Bath your baby at least twice a day to keep him comfortable and cool.
