Earache in Children | Remedies to Relieve Pain and Treat Ear Infection

Earache is usually common after cold. They can be a sign of ear infection. In such cases the doctor finds that the eardrum is intact and looks normal. So the pain is due to the build up of fluid behind the eardrum.

Older children will try to pop their ears in the same manner as they would while going up a hill or in an aero plane.

This will reduce the pressure to a greater or lesser extent. Very young children are unable to do this. And thereby seem to suffer much pain when they have an ear infection.

Remedies for Earache in Children

• Comfort the child first. Earache can be very painful. And children may become very distressed by the pain.
• Give recommended dosage of Paracetamol to the child.
• See the doctor if the pain continues even after taking Paracetamol.
• Sometimes antibiotics are prescribed for ear infections. But they do not relieve pain.
• Call your doctor immediately for advice if there are other worrying symptoms besides earache.
