Congenital Abnormalities, Defects in Children: Diagnosis and Treatment
Defect present at birth is called congenital abnormalities. Improper conditions in the womb and complications in labor are the factors responsible for the defects.
Congenital Dislocation of the Hip
Generally when a joint is dislocated one of the bones is out of place. In case of a hip there is a connection between the ball and joint socket.
Congenital dislocation is common in babies born in breech position and in girl babies.
What to Do
- Doctors check the babies at birth and then at the eighth week, for dislocation of hips.
- If this condition is not diagnosed properly it can cause problems with walking later in life.
- During tests, if the hip just clicks and is not dislocated, then this case will be strictly followed. Scanning maybe conducted for further investigations.
- Babies may have to wear a special splint for some time. Many kids are able to cope up with this.
- Kids may have to undergo surgery if they are not able to cope with the splint.
