Natural Treatments for Rheumatoid Arthritis:
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a type of arthritis which is inflammation of the joints as the main feature. Rheumatoid arthritis is one of the auto-immune disorders. Here the joint which is affected has diminished supply of calcium and collection of purines, acids etc takes place in the joint capsule or synovial membrane. Surrounding cells gets confused and due to it they start attacking synovial membrane. In this attack joint capsule, joint surfaces and nearby tissues gets damaged.
Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis are swelling, redness, stiffness and painful joint.
Commonly attacked joints are those of hand, ankles and knees. Other small joints are also prone to RA. Usually natural remedies are of beneficial help in first year of diagnosis.
Herbal Remedies for Rheumatoid Arthritis:
- Helpful herbs in this condition are ginger, turmeric, sarsaparilla, boswellia etc.
- Ginger is useful home remedy since centuries for this condition. Ginger taken in raw or dried form both are very useful in this condition. Take two to three teaspoon of ginger everyday till symptoms subside. This should be continued for long period for better result.One should continue this treatment even after symptoms have disappeared.
- Turmeric is one of the spices. It has property of reducing the inflammation of the joint and pain. This should be taken one teaspoon in a glass of warm milk two times a day. One can add honey to it for taste.
- Sarsaparilla contains saponin as principle component in it which is useful as effective tool in combating rheumatoid arthritis. Licorice root can also be used for treatment. It has property of reducing the inflammation of the joint and thus reduces pain.
- Boswellia is a plant which contains properties of increasing the synovial fluid in the joint and thus reduces friction causing pain. This is used since centuries for treatment of RA.
One can prepare poultices for external application.
- Take one part of lobelia and cayenne, two parts of mullein leaves and three parts of slippery elm bark. Mix it well. Add two teaspoon of it to little boiling water and make it into paste. Take thin cloth and spread the paste on it. It should be applied over the affected joint.
- Same can be done with taking one part of lobelia, two parts of cayenne and four parts of ginger roots. This aids circulation in the joint.
