Question: I’m 27 years old and 2 weeks before I had a pain in neck and shoulder. I consulted a ortho doctor and he gave mycovita plus and paracitamol with brofen tablets for one week. After one week my pain was not relieved. Suggest any home exercise to relieve neck and shoulder pain.

Shoulder and neck pain are widely prevalent these days due to the sedentary lifestyle, long, tiring work hours at the computer, poor dietary habits and a complete lack of exercise.
Psychological conditions, associated with stress and pressures, bring about a spasm in the muscles of the neck and shoulder, causing severe pain.
There is a close relation between the bones, muscles, inter vertebral discs, and nerves. A slightest problem will have disastrous and far-reaching consequences.

- Osteoarthritis

Treatment for Neck and Shoulder Pain:
- Never slouch. Sit erect. Maintain a good posture.This will solve half your troubles.
- Do not sleep on a mattress which is very soft. This affects the spine.
- Modern conveniences have made work easier. A sedentary life, has exclude exercises. Thus, the muscles aren’t worked, making them more prone to injury. It is essential to exercise daily.
Remedies, Exercises for Neck and Shoulder Pain:
- Sit down on a straight backed chair, keeping your back absolutely straight, and revolve your head first in the anti- clockwise direction and then in the clockwise direction.Do this from the count of 3-6.
- Brahma mudra in padmasana: sit in the padmasana pose or if not convenient, sit cross-legged. Hold your back and neck erect. Inhale and revolve your head to the left, exhale and come back. On the next inhalation, twist to the right, exhale and come back. Inhale and drop the head as much as you can backwards, on the exhalation, come back to the original position. Inhale and drop your head down so that the chin rests on the chest, exhale, come back. This asana works on the muscle of the neck, relaxing them. Furthermore, it also has a soothing and calming effect, eliminating the feeling of stress.
- Take care while sleeping. Always sleep on your sides with one or both knees brought up well with head and shoulder slightly forward.

Part of the problem that people may have is the forward head and rounded shoulder posture. Yes, maintaining good posture would solve half the problem but to maintain that posture requires daily neck exercises.
