Muscular Atrophy Treatments | Muscle Weakness and Pain Remedy

Question: What can I do and give to a 6year old boy that has muscular weakness on his left leg as a result of injection. It happened some months back and the leg is getting shrink.

Answer:

It appears that your case is a typical cause of iatrogenic muscular atrophy after receiving and intra muscular injection. The shrinking of the foot that you observe is due to the wasting of the hamstrings which occurs as a result of reduced or non usage of the specific muscle. It is possible that the intramuscular injection damaged the nerve which controls the motor activities of the hamstring muscles.

Though most of the intramuscular injections are considered routine, there is an increased possibility of neurovasuclar injury if they are not performed correctly.
A possibility of a chemical injury (depending upon the composition of the injection) cant be ruled out.

Treatment for Muscular Atrophy:

  • Physiotherapy and simple exercises of the lower lib like flexion; extension, internal rotation and external rotation are essential to ensure the mobility of the muscle and the joint. These exercises are essential as they will maintain the tone of the muscle and avoid muscle atrophy (i.e. wasting or shrinking).
  • Use hot packs to alleviate muscular pain if any.
  • Use supportive like splints.
  • Homeopathic remedy for muscle weakness – Gelsimium 30, 8 pills taken 4 times a day will enhance and improve the motor coordination and muscular strength.
