Ankylosing spondylitis is an inflammatory disorder of the back.
It is auto-immune in origin. The disorder clusters in families and is linked to HLA-27 antigen.
The spine and other joints get progressively affected, leading to deformities.
Complete recovery is not possible, since structural changes have taken place.
Homoeopathy can ease the pain and reduce the dependence on pain killers.

My brother is 27 years old and he is suffering from a bone disease since 14 to 15 years. Doctors in my country are still unable to diagnose the disease; some say it is SLE and other say it is Ankolysing Spondilytis.
His disease starts with pain in his right hip joint and after few years his back bone also suffer from the disease. Now in 15 years his right hip joint, right leg, vertebral column (from neck till hips) and his shoulders have very extreme pain and left hip joint and left leg have comparatively less pain.
According to his X-ray
1. (PELVIS AP. VIEW) Hip joint space is reduced bilaterally more marked on right side and marked sclerosis seen at right hip joint.
2. (LUMBAR SPINE AP. & LATERAL VIEWS) Loss of normal lordotic curvature of spine possibly due to muscular spam.
3. (CERVICAL SPINE AP. & LATERAL VIEWS) Mall alignment noted between C4-5 level with backward displacement of lower cervical spine, more likely due to ligamentous injury. Narrow of invertebral foramen noted between C4-5 level.
4.(DORSAL SPINE AP. & LATERAL X-RAY) Normal height of dorsal vertebral bodied and its intervening disc space.
Besides this ESR in his blood is 86 and his HLA B27 is positive. He is using several pain killers.
Due to his worst medical condition he is very depressed and since 8 or 9 years he is using drugs.
My dad is having ankylosing spondylitis problem for the last 8 to 9 years . But now this problem is getting worse. Many doctors told me that this spondylitis problem is not curable. Only exercises can provide relief to the body. what are the solutions to this problem?
@HA:
A number of treatments can be adopted to relieve the pain and stiffness of the AS. The new biologic medications (TNF-a Inhibitors) can potentially slow or halt the disease progression in some people. Common treatment include medication, exercise and possibly physical therapy, good posture practices, and other treatment options such as applying heat/cold to help relax muscles and reduce joint pain. In severe cases of AS, surgery may also be considered.
Typically a rheumatologist can create and recommend a treatment plan.
Medications for Akylosing Spondylitis: NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) are the most common treatment suggested by doctors, for treating the pain and stiffness. But they may have some side effects. The next line of treatment called disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs includes medication such as: Sulfasalazine, Methotrexate and Corticosteroids.
The most recent and promising medications for treating ankylosing spondylitis are the biologics, or TNF Blockers. These drugs have been shown to be highly effective in treating not only the arthritis of the joints, but also the spinal arthritis. Included in this group are Enbrel, Remicade and Humira
I am not recommending any drugs here, just pointing out whats being said in the news and on other medical sites. You may want to take this information to your doctor and explore various possibilities for treating your dad. Hope you find some relief from this painful condition.
