- Helps in breaking addictions of drugs, alcohol and smoking.
- Lowers B.P., steadies heartbeat, reduces bleeding during surgery, controls vomiting and nausea.
- Provides relief from muscle spasms and even paralysis.
- Helped some people lose weight.
- Alleviates range of symptoms of allergy, asthma, cerebral palsy, irritable bowel syndrome, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.
Procedure of Hypnotherapy
- Firstly you are tested to see if you are a good candidate for hypnosis.
- Then in next session you maybe asked to lie on a chair or couch.
- The therapist puts you into a trance by asking to watch a moving object as it swings back and forth telling you that your eyes are getting heavy and you need to close them.
- You will be asked to imagine that you are watching sunset or are walking through the woods.
- Now the therapist can make unwanted symptom or habit disappear. For example you maybe asked to visualize abdominal pain as a small fish and then imagine a shark snatching the fish and swimming away. The therapist will now suggest that you will be pain free when you awake.
- Secondly you may be asked to remember or forget something or respond to a given signal in a certain way. For example you maybe told to feel nauseated when you see particular food or hear the click of a lighter. You may even be taught self-hypnosis.
Benefits of Hypnotherapy
When we are in a trance we are neither fully asleep nor fully awake. It helps to alleviate both physical and mental illness. In ancient days hypnotherapy was used to cure hysteria and anxiety. According to some physicians, dentists and psychologists it helps to put heart rate, hunger and B.P., under our power; helps in reacting to negative situations differently, changes pulse rate or body temperature; turns away attention from harmful or unpleasant pain, discourages unwanted behavior. It reduces the effects of stress and reinforces the immune system, improves circulation and the entire body has a healthy feeling.
Side Effects of Hypnotherapy
Considered safe for all. A hypnotic suggestion works only if you accept it and the therapist cannot make you do something that you are against.
