Craniosacral Therapy for Sinus, mental retardation, learning diabilities
In Craniosacral Therapy, gentle manipulations of the skull can relieve pain and tension. A natural rhythm in the Central Nervous System can be harmonizing.
Uses of Craniosacral Therapy
- When the normal flow of cerebrospinal fluid is obstructed certain disorders are caused. They can be set right by gently nudging the head, spine, lower spine, ribcage and limbs.
- Sinusitis, headaches, visual disturbances, vertigo, traumatic brain injury, pain in the jaw, certain cases of mental retardation and temporary mini strokes can be set right.
- Asthma, cerebral palsy, ear-nose-throat problems can be treated.
- In children it is recommended for attention deficit hyperactive disorders, autism, genetic and neurological disorders, developmental delay and learning disabilities.
- Mainstream physicians oppose this therapy because they feel bones of the skull are fused together and cannot be nudged.
Procedure of treatment of Craniosacral Therapy
This therapy is done with light touches to the head, spine, sacrum, ribs and extremities.
Benefits of Craniosacral Therapy
The flow of the cerebrospinal fluid, and the motion of the brain, spinal cord and surrounding membranes along with movement in the skull bones and sacrum creates a rhythm called “cranial rhythmic impulse”. When the flow of fluids is hindered by trauma it leads to illnesses. For example Birth trauma can lead to developmental delays, chronic ear infections, inability to suck or swallow and colic. Manipulations can relieve these problems.
Who Should Avoid Craniosacral Therapy
- Small children with recently fused skull bones; people with suspected brain hemorrhage.
- Practitioners themselves suggest that the therapy is not worth trying unless pain is caused by abnormal pressure or stress.
Side Effects of Craniosacral Therapy
- When patients with traumatic brain injury were treated with this therapy the side effects included diarrhea, explosive behavior, vomiting, headache, angry thoughts and cardiac palpitation.

My child is MR due to forcef delivery. He did not cry after birth. Presently he is 14 yrs.
Would this therapy be useful for him?

I am a CS therapist in Wyoming. Ideally this therapy would be used as soon as possible after delivery. However, intervention at this stage could still facilitate some great results. Because it is so gentle and non-invasive, it would be well worth experimenting with treatment. Since I don’t know enough details, I recommend you read more about CST, and search for a practitioner in your area.
