Adolescence is a tender age and parents have to be careful during this period of any behavioral changes in their child. Adolescent behavioral issue may become large and serious if it is not diagnosed in time.
Behavioral Problems In Young Adults
Adolescent phase in a teenager is a conflict of circumstances where he or she passes through the childhood phase to more mature adulthood stage. He passes through the normal physical changes as well mental changes. His perception of observing the surrounding around him will be different; he will be more energetic and try to establish his identity.
Behavior Disorders In Adolescents
Adolescent behavioral disorder types:
- Attention deficit hyperactive disorder: this is the commonest adolescent behavioral disorder in a teenager, it is a learning disorder where the scholastic performance of the child gets poor, lack of attention in studies, and constant failures will affect his academic performance. This may cause frustration in him leading to aggressive, impulsive and hyperactive behavior.Due to this he may deviate himself to anti social behavior such as shoplifting, drinking, smoking and drug abuse.
- Depression in adolescent: this is quite normal in early years but if it persist longer he may develop suicidal tendencies, parents should recognize this changes and treat him soon. The signs of depression in teenagers may be like no interest in activities, low self esteem, insomnia etc.
Behavior Disorders In Teenagers
- Oppositional defiance behavioral disorder in adolescent: it is characterized by opposing and defiant behavior to parents and others in general. It manifests as bad temper, anger, argumentative and unreasonable traits.
- Eating behavioral disorder in adolescent: teenage girls have the tendency to get obese during this period due to improper eating habits. Other severe problems of eating are anorexia, it generally is seen in teenagers with low self esteem
If parents of teenager come across any such adolescent behavioral disorder they should take him to the psychiatrist for he is the right man who can treat him and give proper counseling. Parent on their part have to be more supporting and caring during this trying times.
