Lymphatic Massage Benefits

What is a Lymphatic Massage?

Lymphatic Massage is a light touch massage therapy developed to improve functioning of the lymphatic System.

Sometimes it is also known as Manual Lymphatic Massage or Lymphatic Drainage Massage.

Let us understand briefly the lymphatic system; its functions and then move on to the benefits of Lymphatic Massage.

What is a Lymphatic System? What are its functions?

The Lymphatic system consists of a complex network of vessels, tissues and organs. It transports, a watery fluid called lymph.

Lymphatic system is responsible for maintaining a proper fluid and protein balance; developing immunity to virus, bacteria, common illnesses; flushing out toxins, unwanted wastes.

If, Lymphatic system does not function properly it may lead to fluid retention, swelling, headaches, joint pain, fatigue, lethargic feeling, cramps and frequent cold & flu infections.

What are the Benefits of Lymphatic Massage?

Lymphatic massage therapy has to be performed by trained / specialist therapists only.

They use very light pressure, circular rhythmic movements to stimulate the lymphatic system to perform better.

A lymphatic massage releases the blockages developed in the lymph system. It increases the flow of lymph in the body.

This in turn helps remove toxins and wastes from the body, improves metabolism and strengthens immune system.

After a lymphatic massage, you will clearly feel energetic, rejuvenated and relaxed. You may also feel thirsty and hence require drinking lots of water.

Lymphatic Massage is particularly beneficial in the following conditions:

Stress and Strain

If you’re feeling tired and low on energy; or if you have been sick; lymph massage will serve you well. It relaxes the nervous system, improves sleep, helps get rid of feelings of anxiety, depression.

Reduces Swelling

Lymphatic Massage is helpful to reduce pain, inflammation, caused by sinus, allergies, injuries or operations. It also has remarkable results in cases of patients suffering from lymphedema and fibromyalgia.

Skin and Cosmetic Care

Since lymphatic massage increases lymph flow, cells receive fresh fluids regularly this makes the skin look fresh. It is also helpful to reduce puffiness, appearance of varicose veins, wrinkles. It is also used in post surgical treatments to reduce any swelling or bruises caused by cosmetic surgeries.

Sports Persons

Lymphatic massage is useful for sportspersons to tone their body.  During recovery from a sports injury; it enhances tissue regeneration; gives faster relief because it removes proteins and waste products from the affected area and reduces swelling.

Breast Cancer

Lymphatic massage helps reduce pain and swelling during breast cancer treatment. With increased lymph flow, it may improve the function of healthy breast tissue.

Increase Gain Height with Exercises and Yoga Sukhasana

How can one gain height gained with exercises and yoga and what is the last age for achieving height in boys and girls
[Q] At what age a boy stops growing in height and a girl what exercise or diet should be taken to increase height in boy and girl
[A] Typically children gain height up to about 11-15. After this age its rare.
[A] Also I don’t think height gain has any proven diet. It’s purely genetic

Can any food or special diet or exercise help me gain weight

[A] Exercise probably may help. A lot of people think” pull-ups” and stretching exercise may help gain weight.

  1. So doing some 20-30 pull-ups per day may help gain height. Again this is not medically proven
  2. You may want to try some stretching exercises, yoga offer these stretching poses
  3. Yoga poses such as “sit easy position” or “Sukhasana” may help gain height.
  4. “Cobra Pose” also helps you stretch your body

How is Sukhasana Yoga Pose done? And does yoga help increase my height?

[A] Even if these poses do not increase your height they can be helpful for your overall health/body
Sukhasana Yoga posture to stretch and (maybe) gain height:

  1. Sit with crossed legs and hands on your knees
  2. Keep your spine straight and sit flat on the ground, look straight up
  3. Relax your knees downward towrads the floor
  4. Take 5-6 deep breaths, and raise your arms over your head while you inhale
  5. Bring your arms down slowly as you exhale
  6. Repeat this about 10 times and do this 2-3 times a day

Forward Bend Exercises to gain height

Forward bend stretches your spines, calves, hamstring, back and exercises your hip. These strecthes may help you increase your height a bit if you are at a young age (say less than 15-16 years of age). It may also help people who are older gain heoght but that seems rare.

  1. Spread your legs wide across and rainse your hands. close your palms together above your head.
  2. Bend forward and try to touch the floor. You will feel a strectch all across your body.
  3. As you get comfortable with these stretches, get your feet closer together - this will make it tougher for your to touch the floor.

These stretching exercises test your muscles and spine and stretches them - and you are at an young and tender age when the bones are still growing, you may find yourself a wee bit taller - with some increase in your height. In any case, even if you do not gain any height, these exercises are good for you anyways. Taller or not, you will certainly be fitter than before!

CBC check fever antibiotic typhoid diet

We have done CBC of my son there is infection and doctor has prescribed him
anti biotic like taxim and oflamac but his fever still comes in the morning
and evening after taking emusulide it goes down what is exactly wrong I have
done the malaria and jaundice test which are negative but I am worried what
should his diet be like
[Q] Please let me know what type of fever is this that is there for last 15 days - does he require hospitalization
[Health Adviser] What other symptoms does he have?
[Health Adviser] Any body ache, vomiting, anything else? How id his appetite?
[Q] no appetite, very lethargy feel heaviness in the head initially he had
vomiting but now no; but has a body ache now
[Q] His fever rises to 103 sometimes
[Health Adviser] Since he has fever for so many days - and he has no
appetite - it could be a type of typhoid - or something related fever -
[Health Adviser] I would strongly recommend you go ahead with your doctor
suggestions - and maybe hospitalize him
[Health Adviser] How old is your child?
[Q] what type of treatment would you suggest and what would be his diet. He
is 13 years old
[Health Adviser] It is difficult to diagnose this remotely - ideally you
should contact your local medical expert and get some more examinations for
typhoid etc. I think he should be hospitalized as his fever persisted for
over 10 days - ideally for more investigations and treatment
[Health Adviser] His diet also can be confirmed with your local doctor after
identifying the real cause of his fever. In the meanwhile avoid spicy and
oily food for sure.
[Q] thank you
[Health Adviser] Please let us know if this was helpful after a few days.
Thanks for contacting us. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if we
can be of further assistance.

Problem focusing mind - worrying, fear, negative thoughts

[Q] How to focus the mind without letting it waver? My mind is always
disturbed due to lot of fear and worries. What should I do to overcome this
problem?
[Health Adviser] That’s a very generic question! Can you tell me something
about yourself? your occupation, age, daily activities and your “specific”
problem with focussing on things?
[Q] Basically I was a sports person during my child hood. since i am very
much interested in sports my friends got jealous of me and twisted my mind
saying negative thoughts and negative things. which let me in depression for
past 11 years. Everyday I played shuttle in the morning come to home take
bath and i used to come to my company and do the work given to me. my
specific problem on focussing is I am afraid of a disease which makes unable
to speak to a person very socially.
[Q] And I am not able to mingle with crowds due to this problem.
[Health Adviser] I think this is specifically due to ‘lack of confidence’ in
your abilities. You must first believe that you are a very normal person and
very able to do the work you are assigned and that you are very good with
it. You need to build a self confidence in yourself.
[Health Adviser] Once you do that, you will internally see yourself very
positively, and hence your outside world will appear much better - and you
will be able to talk to people freely
[Q] Please let me know how to build my self confidence.which i use to have
during my childhood days
[Health Adviser] You may also want to try and medidate daily for some 20
minutes a day. Think about all the good things in life, the accomplishments
you have had during your childhood days. The friends that you have had, the
pleasant memories in your past, Try to relive those memories, enjoy that
moment. Bring a smile to your face while you remember those moments that you
cherished. Do this twice a day if possible. See if this brings about a
change in your thoughts. Then come back here and we can try to take this
further.
1. Confront your fears: list down what they are - Think about how o cope
with them
2. Talk about your worries with someone - if you have a friend or a relative
you can trust
3. After you make a list of things that worry your mind, add things you can
do to NOT WORRY and take ACTION
4. Try to be assertive. You can get rid of some anxiety by being assertive.
5. Try to keep 30 minutes a day for “worrying”. Promise yourself that you
will worry only for 30 minutes a day - and the rest of the time try to not
think of the negative thoughts.
6. Relax and visualize. Set yourself in a garden, your own room, beach or
anywhere you are comfortable. Close your eye and try to relax. Visualize
your worries as some “things” like stones or marbles or sticks - and start
throwing them away.
7. Try to exercise everyday - something strenuous if you can - brisk walks
can be a good way to start
8. In your diet avoid caffeine - coffee, tea, carbonated drinks. Avoid
smoking and alcohol.
9. Eat more fresh vegetables and fruit juices. Eat less quantity more
frequently.
10. Drink enough water each day
11. Stick to a regular routine - wake up, eat, exercise, meditate and go to
bed in time each day.
[Q] Thanks these are very helpful things. I will try these out.
[Health Adviser] If you think about it, you basically have two choices: 1.
to remain sad and trouble yourself for the rest of your life Or 2. WAKE UP
and feel good about yourself. Since you are able to understand what happened
in the past, you certainly will be able to cope with the new challenge: of
helping yourself get rid of past bad memories
[Health Adviser] Make new friends - don’t be afraid of meeting new people -
don’t get overly involved with anyone in the beginning. just treat them as
acquaintances. See how these relationships develop over time and then decide
how you want to take it forward.
[Q] I am taking treatment from a psychiatrist, who is giving me pills daily
due to chemical changes in my brain. the seratin and dopamine which is
secrating more in my brain. which makes me nervous. Just want to know how to
develop my left confidence.
[Health Adviser] The key is to go out and try - If you don’t even try,
nothing will help. You must try and medidate each day - and think about all
the positive things in life. Try it for 20 minutes each day - if possible
once in the morning and once in the evening (maybe just before going to bed)
[Health Adviser] It is difficult to solve these problems over chat - but you
can certainly try to meditate each day - this will not be easy in the
beginning - but after a few days you will be able to meditate [Q] can u give
email id, so I can keep in touch with u for your valuable advice.
[Health Adviser] Try that and then come back to us.
[Health Adviser] You can always contact us on this chat service
[Q] Thank you very much for your time. I will come back later next week.

Massage therapy is an ancient healing technique. It involves applying pressure to meridian points, using long smooth gliding strokes, tapping, circular movements, squeezing, rolling, kneading, friction, vibration with the use of fingers, palms, hands etc to correct body imbalances and promote general well being.

Massage Therapy has lots of physical, mental benefits. It relaxes body and mind; reduces stress, tensions, improves concentration, provides peaceful sleep, relieves aches and pains, increases flexibility, help recover faster from injuries and illness, strengthens the immune system, and so on.

There are various types and techniques of Massage Therapy. Each of these massage techniques has its own history and ancient values that have been further enhanced and developed to suit the modern times and requirements.

Let us briefly understand some very highly popular massage techniques.

Acupressure

Acupressure is an ancient form of healing. It involves using the fingers and toes to press key points on the surface of the skin to release endorphins, block pain and increase the flow of blood and oxygen.

It relaxes the body, increases circulation, reduces tension, strengthens  immune system and promotes wellness.

Aromatherapy Massage

Essential oils obtained from various plants, herbs, flowers, roots have beneficial therapeutic qualities. Aromatherapy involves using these essential oils to achieve desired results. E.g. Lavender oil helps calm anxiety, stress, depression, insomnia etc.

When a few drops of aromatherapy oils are added to massage cream or oil, they enhance the overall massage experience.

Ayurvedic Massage

Ayurveda originated in India thousands of years ago. The basis of Ayurvedic treatment is to restore the balances of the 3 forms of energy, i.e. Vata: The energy of movement;
Pitta, The energy of digestion; and Kapha- The energy of structure.

Ayurvedic herbs and warm oils are used depending on specific requirements of patients and are highly customized.  Ayurvedic massage helps reduce stress, relaxes the mind and body and brings about inner peace.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese word derived from “shi” which means fingers and “atsu” which means pressure. Thus it means “finger pressure”.

Shiatsu Therapists diagnose problem areas with their fingers, palms and thumbs which sense the irregularities or pain or stiffness of specific points. They identify, heal existing problems; as well as treat any problems likely to crop up in future.  Thus, Shiatsu combines Diagnosis and Treatment.  Hence it is also a preventive therapy.

Shiatsu massages release toxins from the body, improve blood circulation, relieve stress, strain, increase stamina, flexibility and make you feel relaxed, rejuvenated.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a special massage therapy developed for maximum benefits to sports persons focusing on muscle systems relevant to their sports. Sports Massage plays a crucial role when training to prepare for an event, during competition and after performing at a sporting event.

Sports massage keeps the body well maintained, conditioned and extends lifespan of sporting careers.  Sports massage helps reduce muscle tension, relax muscles, release endorphins, reduces pain, improve flexibility, cure injuries, restores mobility. It also helps reduce anxiety, provides energizing feeling and boosts performance

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage aims to increase the oxygen level in blood and flush toxins from the muscles. It is done using a technique called “draping”. Therapists use massage oil to enable them to make 5 different styles of strokes known as Effleurage, Petrissage, Tapotement, Friction and Vibration to achieve maximum benefits.

Swedish massage therapy increases oxygen level, flushes toxins from muscles, improves circulation, relieves physical pain, emotional stress, reduces muscular strain recovery time, helpful in stiff joints, sprains, fractures, sciatica.

Shiatsu Massage Therapy: Reduce Stress, Increase Stamina

Shiatsu is a Japanese word derived from “shi” which means fingers and “atsu” which means pressure. Thus it means “finger pressure”.

Definition of Shiatsu mentioned by Japanese medical department of the Ministry of Welfare in December 1957 reads: “Shiatsu technique refers to the use of fingers and palm of one’s hand to apply pressure to particular sections on the surface of the body for the purpose of correcting the imbalances of the body, and for maintaining and promoting health. It is also a method contributing to the healing of specific illnesses.”

There is an interesting story how Shiatsu evolved. Tokujiro Namikoshi, a young 7 year old boy, first used his thumbs and fingers to massage; give some relief to his mother; who was suffering from rheumatoid arthritis.  Namikoshi is instrumental in developing the modern day systematic Shiatsu therapy.

Usually a Shiatsu session will last for an hour or so. Shiatsu therapists tell you to lie face down and start using appropriate finger pressure at the important meridian or pressure points to help alleviate the problem. How much pressure to apply, depends on specific points as well as the patient’s physical condition.

It is therefore also a preventive therapy.

Shiatsu immediately stimulates the immune system, circulatory system, nervous system and improves the natural healing powers within the body.

To sum up, we can say that Shiatsu massage helps release toxins from the body, improves blood circulation and relieves stress and strain. It helps you feel relaxed and rejuvenated. It increases stamina and flexibility.

Important points to remember before going in for a Shiatsu massage therapy are:  Wear loose fitting cotton clothes for a massage. Avoid eating a heavy meal before a Shiatsu session. Eat at least two hours or more prior to the session. Avoid strenuous activity after the session.

Shiatsu massage may not be suitable for people suffering from acute ailments. Hence it is advisable to consult your doctor before you jump start a Shiatsu massage therapy.
