• Decoction prepared from the beans is an excellent remedy for treating diabetes.
• 60 grams of fresh de-seeded kidney bean pods are boiled in 4 liters of water on a slow fire for 4 hours. It is then strained well and left for 8 hours.
• 1 glass of this decoction should be consumed every 2 hours alongside diet restrictions.
• This treatment should be continued for 8 weeks.
• Remember to make fresh decoction everyday.

• Diabetes can also be controlled by juice extracted from French beans. It stimulates production of insulin.

LETTUCE

• Diabetics can liberally use Lettuce.
• It contains 3 % or less of carbohydrates and is one of the important foods prescribed for diabetes.

ONION

• Right from ancient times onion has been used for treatment of diabetes.
• This pungent vegetable lowers blood sugar in diabetes.
• Tests have proved that greater the dose of onion, faster the decrease in blood sugar levels.
• It can be eaten both in raw and cooked form.

JAMBUL FRUIT

• Jambul fruit is also known as java plum or rose apple and possesses anti-diabetic properties.
• All, the fruit, seeds and juice can be used for the treatment of diabetes.
• It has substantial influence on the pancreas.
• The jamboline content present in the seeds check the conversion of starch into sugar (in case of increased production of glucose).
• Seeds are dried, powdered and mixed with water. It can be taken around 4 times a day. It reduces sugar in the urine and quenches thirst.
• The inner bark of Jambul tree is also considered beneficial in diabetes treatment.
• The bark is dried and burnt to a white ash. This ash is ground, strained and bottled.
• 2 grams of this ash should be given on empty stomach in morning and 2 grams each in the morning and evening after meals.
• For excessive urination in diabetes, seeds of jambul fruit can be used. 1 gram powder each in the morning and evening is effective in controlling the condition.

• Ingestion of water extract of Bengal gram increases glucose utilization in diabetes.

• When chronic diabetic patients were kept on a diet; that included liberal supplements of Bengal Gram extract, their insulin requirement decreased from 40 units to 20 units a day.

• Diabetic patients who were on a restricted diet, with limited intake of carbohydrates and liberal intake of Bengal gram extract, showed considerable improvement in their fasting sugar levels, glucose tolerance and urinary excretion of sugar.

BROCCOLI

• Broccoli is a popular food in Europe and is closely related to cauliflower.
• It is rich in trace mineral chromium that lowers blood sugar. Hence it is a popular anti-diabetic food.
• Chromium regulates blood sugar level; hence reduces medication, insulin needs of diabetics.
• Chromium may successfully prevent the onset of full-fledged disease in case of mild diabetes.

CHROMOTHERAPY

• Chromo-therapy uses colors for treatment. According to this therapy, lack of color-harmony in the human system signifies the presence of diseases.
• Use of colored light helps to remove imbalance from the body.

• Along with right diet, exercises, adequate rest and relaxation, chromotherapy is best used as a supportive therapy.

The rainbow colors have healing powers. Yellow color occupies midpoint of the spectrum. Blue, Red colors are at the extremities. They are the principal colors in a rainbow and the other four being violet, indigo, green and orange.

How It Works?

There are two different methods of treating diseases by colors
• By application of light that is filtered through different colored glasses; and
• By external or internal use of color-charged water.

Application of light filtered through different colored glasses
• In first method, sheets of glass measuring 30 cms. by 36 cms. of different colors are used.
• These are placed in windows or in places where sunrays penetrate them and fall directly on the patient’s body.
• The treatment usually requires 30 minutes.

External or Internal use of color-charged water
• Colored bottles are used in the second method.
• These bottles are cleaned well. Three fourths bottle is filled with rainwater, distilled water or well water.
• The bottles are then corked and placed in bright sunlight for 3 to 4 hours.
• The water is then supposed to have acquired medicinal properties.
• This colored water can be used for both external and internal application.

Colors and their respective benefits

Lemon Yellow
• Lemon yellow is effective in the treatment of indigestion, diabetes and other diseases.
• It is a stimulant for the liver, spleen and brain.
• It is a laxative and diuretic.   

Green
• Green and orange colors are beneficial in controlling diabetes.
• Green color helps pituitary gland to stimulate thyroid gland.
• Green charged water when taken on empty stomach in the morning or before meals is beneficial in diabetes.
• It also stimulates elimination of toxic matter.
• Washing the eyes with green-charged water and gargling are also recommended.

Orange
• Breathing of orange color has been found beneficial in the treatment of diabetes.
• An empty orange colored bottle corked at the mouth should be exposed to sunlight for an hour.
• The cork should then be removed and patient should breathe sun-charged air from the bottle for a few minutes.
• The procedure can be repeated 3 times daily.
• Alternately patients can drink orange sun-charged water about 15 to 20 minutes after every important meal.

Besides these diabetic patients should have liberal intakes of fruits and vegetables.

MUD THERAPY

Mud therapy uses mud or clay packs, poultices and even mud baths to prevent, treat various diseases.

• It takes longer to get heated and can hold the heat for a long time.
• The skin can tolerate mud at even high temperature.
• Compared to water bath, mud bath has milder action and is superior form of heat therapy.

• Mud used for mud treatment is preferably stored in tubs made of cast iron, wood, cement and ceramic.
• Two separate adjacent rooms are used for mud treatment.
• The room where mud is applied should have washable floors and walls.
• The mud is superheated before use.
• The room has also cold and hot water spray provision for washing after mud bath.
• The second room has a bed to rest after the bath. The same room can also be used for changing.

MUD PACK

• Clay obtained from about 10 cms. below earth’s surface is used for preparing mud -pack.
• The earth is dug out; impurities, dirt such as pebbles, compost are removed from upper layers.
• Then this soil is stored in a clean dry place.
• It is soaked overnight in water and then sieved and ground.
• This clay is then mixed with warm water to form a smooth paste.
• Depending on different types of applications, temperature and consistency are predetermined.
• This paste is allowed to cool, then spread on strip of cloth that vary in size according to requirements.
• Mud pack is placed on the abdomen and wrapped with flannel or other protecting material.
• Diabetics are specially benefited from mudpacks applied to abdomen.
• Mud treatment retains moisture and coolness for longer periods than cold-water packs or compresses.
• The cold moisture relaxes pores of the skin, draws blood to the surface, relieves pain and inner congestion and eliminates poisonous matter.

MUD BATH

• Mud baths are similar to mud packs, but cover the entire body.
• Mud or clay is ground, sieved and then mixed with hot water to make a smooth paste.
• The paste is spread on a sheet and wrapped round the body.
• One or two blankets are wrapped over this.
• A mud bath is followed by a warm water bath or a short cold shower.
• Mud bath increases circulation, tones and energizes the skin tissues.
• The duration of the bath ranges from 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Procedure
• In dry friction method the body is brushed with a soft bristle brush or with a rough dry towel.
• To begin with - face, neck and chest are brushed gently followed by brushing of the arms, beginning at the wrist and moving towards the shoulder.
• Then start with the toe, moving to the ankle and then up the leg.
• Repeat the same with the other leg, followed by hips and central portion of the body.
• Brush quickly to and fro till the skin attains pink color.

SPONGE BATH
• Sponge bath is generally given to patients suffering from chronic diseases.
• Sponge bath is given with a Turkish towel in a basin.
• The patient is covered with a bed sheet.
• The legs are rubbed briskly with a Turkish towel dipped frequently in water and dried immediately.
• The body parts are sponged one at a time beginning with arms, chest, abdomen, legs, feet and back.
• A towel is spread under the entire length of the limb when the arms and legs are sponged.
• To stimulate circulation the skin is rubbed briefly and each part is dried to avoid chill.
• However warm water can be used for weak patients.

NEUTRAL IMMERSION BATH
• In neutral immersion bath, the bathtub is filled with both hot and cold-water connections.
• The water temperature should measure between 26 - 28 degree centigrade
• The bath may take between 15 minutes to 1 hour.
• It improves functioning of kidneys, skin and is beneficial in treatment of disorders relating to these organs.
• It is also beneficial in treatment of chronic, inflammatory conditions of brain and spinal cord.

MASSAGE
• It is a passive exercise; produces excellent results. In Greek language it means “to knead”.
• In this process the soft tissues of the body are scientifically manipulated.
• It can be highly stimulating and rejuvenating if it is correctly done on the bare body.

General massage of the body provides multiple benefits.
It improves respiration, tones the nervous system, improves circulation and metabolic processes and speeds up elimination of waste material and poisons through various eliminative organs such as lungs, skin, kidneys and bowels. It is highly beneficial in treatment of diabetes.

COLD HIP BATH

• This treatment involves only the hips and abdominal region below the navel.
• It is one of the most useful forms of hydrotherapy.
• Cold hipbath is very beneficial for diabetes.
• It reduces obesity, helps organs of elimination to function properly and relieves constipation and indigestion.

• A different type of tub maybe used for cold hipbath.
• The tub is filled with enough water (around 4 to 6 liters) so that the hips and lower abdomen up-to the navel are immersed in water when you sit in the tub.
• Rest your back on one side of the tub and let legs hang out on the other side.
• A common tub maybe used if the special tub is not available.
• But you have to place some support under one end to elevate it by 8 to 10 centimeters.
• The legs should be adjusted in such a manner, so that no pressure is exerted on the muscles, ligament and blood vessels of knee region.
• Then a coarse wet cloth is used to rub abdomen briskly below navel region.
• But remember that during and after bath, the upper portion of the body and legs and feet are kept completely dry.

• The duration of the bath is around 10 minutes.
• The temperature of water should be maintained between 10 to 18 degrees centigrade.
• Patients who are weak can take this bath for 5 minutes.
• If the patient feels cold, then hot foot immersion can be conducted simultaneously.

• After cold hipbath the patient should undergo moderate exercising to warm the body.

NEUTRAL HIP BATH

• In neutral hipbath lower abdomen & hips are immersed in water for about 20 minutes to 1 hour.
• Tepid water with temperature between 32 to 36 degree centigrade is used for this purpose.
• No friction or rubbing in involved in this method.
• Neutral hipbath is soothing and sedative in nature.
• It also helps relieve all acute and sub-acute inflammatory conditions such as acute catarrh of the bladder and urethra and sub-acute inflammation in uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries.

HYDROTHERAPY

• Hydrotherapy is extremely beneficial for the treatment of diabetes.
• Water is an important solvent. It is capable of absorbing, conducting heat and has positive effects on the body.

• During the first few days of Hydrotherapy treatment, warm water enema is used to clean the colon thoroughly. It can also be used as and when required.
• Cold-water baths enhance capability of the muscles to utilize sugar and increase circulation.

• Neutral hip bath, cold baths, sponge baths and regular dry friction baths help eliminate toxic matter from the body.  

ENEMA

• In this method water is injected through the rectum to cleanse the intestine.
• Enema can be taken once a month for beneficial results.
• If you want to take enema the following morning then decide it the evening before.
• Because dinner should be light, comprising of boiled or steamed vegetables or juices.
• This ensures that there is very little or no undigested food in the system the next morning.
• The best time to take enema is between 6 and 10 o’clock in the morning, preferably 10 to 15 minutes after the daily bowel movement.

Procedure
• The patient has to lie on the right side with the right leg stretched out and left leg bent at the knee at right angle.
• The enema tube that is to be inserted into the rectum is lubricated with any lubricant.

• Then one or two liter of water is released into the rectum through the rubber tube.
• The patient can then take a walk or lie on his back while he still retains the water.
• The water is then thrown out after 5 to 10 minutes along with accumulated waste matter.

• A warm water enema removes toxins from the system along with accumulated fecal matter.
• It also improves the peristaltic movements and relieves constipation.
• It is the safest method for cleansing the bowels.
